TALAN-TED: If the voice you hear over the closing credits of Nicole Holofeener's
"Lovely & Amazing" sounds familiar, it's because it is that
of rising local singer/songwriter Deb Talan. Her song "Forgiven,"
from the CD "Something Burning," plays at the end ofthe film.
"It fits the film because it's about forgiving someone who has hurt you—forgiving in a small human way, not in a religious sense," says Talan, a Western Massachusetts native who recently moved from Boston to Northampton.
Talan says "Lovely & Amazing," which stars Brenda Blethyn and Catherine Keener (playing at the Kendall and other area cinemas), has significantly helped sales of her two self-released CDs. The song ended up in the movie after Talan's manager sent it out for consideration, then the film's music director heard it and thought it matched the plot's frayed-relationship themes.
Although she's busy recording a third CD for a late fall release, Talan, who plays guitar, piano, and clarinet, will appear in concert at the SomerviHe Theatre on Oct. 19. She performed recently in Arlington at the Regent Theatre's '1hen and Now" event, which featured emerging area folk singers and Murray Learner's documentary "Festival!," about the Newport Folk Festival during the mid-1960s.
